Carm is an imaging scanner intensifier. The name derives from the C-shaped arm used to connect the xray source and xray detector to one another. Carmshave radiographic capabilities, though they are used primarily for fluoroscopic intraoperative imaging during surgical, orthopedic and emergency care procedures.

It’s important to know the most crucial parts of your C-Arm Machine to be able to recognize issues as they appear, and either fix or prevent them before your C-Arm reaches downtime. Below are the main components and parts that make up your C-Arm.  We used images of OEC 9800 for our blog but these parts are common to most other models/brands.

C-Arm Image Intensifier 

An x-ray image intensifier (XRII) is an image intensifier that converts x-rays into visible light at higher intensity than mere fluorescent screens do. An Image intensifier is one of the main components of your C-Arm Machine. This is one of the most expensive parts and will degrade overtime.

C-Arm CCD Camera

Charge-Coupled Device Camera (CCD) – A camera which incorporates a CCD to create high-resolution images under a variety of light conditions. Together with the Image Intensifier, the two components assure the quality of your images.

High voltage cables are in place to assure good connections for twisting and turning that takes place in the C-Arm. These cables can develop bad connections, and cause errors and failures in your C-Arm

Central Processing Unit (CPU) can be define as the brain of your C-Arm. The parts of the CPU Board parts can fail overtime and once it stops working your C-Arm won’t be able to run.
